Ebensee	Wangen	Prato

In Wangen im Allgäu, there has been a self-governing youth center for 50 years, a municipal youth center for 25 years and a municipal youth council for about ten years.

The goal of the program in Wangen is to demonstrate the importance and implementation of youth participation in democratic processes. The lack of information filters in today's "social media" explicitly requires strong, critical judgment on the part of young people.

Youth representatives from Wangen will explain how young people in their city are involved in democratic processes. Moreover, the respective activities are described to those responsible for youth work in the city administration.

In addition, the project of the State Horticultural Show will be presented: Urban Redevelopment in the Allgäu as an example of sustainable and climate-friendly building culture. The energy turnaround is in full swing. Therefore, solutions must be found to build in a resource-saving way in the future and to design the landscape close to nature.

Thursday 22 June

Welcome evening
After we arrived, we were welcomed at the Wangen guesthouse with dinner and drinks. We were also able to get to know the first leisure facilities such as the table football and the skate park. At 10 o'clock we went back to the accommodation.

Friday 23 June

Presentation of the youth centre
On the morning of the first day, we were introduced to the youth centre in Wangen. We also had the opportunity to see the skate park, which was the result of an initiative in which young people from the town played a major role.

Workshop Part 1 + 2
On Friday, the workshops began. After the presentation of the youth centre and its success, the young people from Prato and Ebensee were asked to think about what they would like to change in their community in order to offer more opportunities for young people. The aim is that the ideas developed can actually be put into practice.

Visit to the Landesgartenschau grounds
After the lunch break, we went to the grounds of the State Garden Show, which will take place in 2024. We were given a guided tour of the grounds and were able to gather first impressions of it.

Building furniture for the Landesgartenschau
On the grounds of the State Garden Show, there will be an area that has been started by young people. For this area, furniture and birdhouses were built on this day, which we could paint together.

Barbecue
The evening ended with a barbecue. In addition to the participants from Prato, Wangen and Ebensee, there were also students from South Africa who are on an exchange with the city of Wangen.

Saturday 24 June

Workshop Part 3
Saturday started with the last part of the workshop. The young people worked out their ideas and prepared presentations, which were later presented during the ceremony.

Visit to the Stefanshöhe open-air swimming pool as an example of youth participation
At noon we went to the nearby swimming pool, whose design was influenced by young people and children from Wangen. We could take a short break and lie in the sun and swim.

Official ceremony
In the afternoon the official ceremony took place. At this there were speeches of the delegates from Prato, Wangen and Ebensee and musical contributions. In addition, the young people of the respective cities presented their wishes and demands for the future. A video of the ceremony can be found here.

Youth Festival Woodstockenweiler
In the evening we had the chance to visit the festival Woodstockenweiler. We enjoyed the last rays of the sun, listened to the concerts and spent a nice time together.

Sunday 25 June

Conclusion in the youth centre
Sunday morning we finished the project in Wangen with a last meeting. This included an evaluation of the trip and then lunch together.

Excursion to Lindau and Bregenz
We ended the trip with a tour to Lake Constance. The first stop was Bregenz. From there we went by boat to Lindau.
